Love your co-op? As a member-owned store, the co-op’s annual meeting is coming up, which means board elections are right around the corner. Being on the board provides an opportunity as a member-owner to get involved and help with the long-term management and direction of the business. Running for a board position is one of the benefits of being a member-owner of the co-op.

Member-owner participation through being on the board is a key part of how we’ve gotten through the past 50 years. We have five board seats up for election this year. If you’d like to run for a board position, stay tuned to our next newsletter for more information about when and where to pick up a registration form from the current board, or reach out to in**@**fc.coop with your interest. Elections are held each year starting at the time of the annual meeting with two-year terms starting in May.

The Co-op’s Board of Directors crafts long-term planning for the vision, direction, and fiscal oversight of the business. The Board represents the member-owners and provides long-term vision, direction, and fiscal oversight for the co-op. In short, the Board helps ensure the store stays true to its mission while remaining financially strong.

A significant difference between a co-op and a regular business is that the members, not a single person, own it, and that applies to the long-term direction of the store, as well. If the store does well, the money doesn’t go into one person’s pocket; it benefits the store, the member-owners, the employees, and our local community!
